If you are concerned or self-conscious about missing your teeth or just don’t like to wear dentures, dental implants may be the right solution. Midtown Dental uses the latest technology to offer minimally invasive dental implants implant dentistry in Sacramento.
What is a dental implant?
A dental implant is a small, but strong, clinically supported device made of titanium or titanium-zirconium (looks like a screw), which is inserted into the jaw bone in place of a missing tooth root. An implant acts as support for an artificial tooth crown or bridge, and is surgically placed under local anesthesia on an outpatient basis.
Why a Dental Implant?
Missing a tooth is not just a cosmetic dental problem that takes away from your smile, but can lead to several other dental and oral health problems in the future. Some of these problems can include bone loss, shifting and drifting teeth, bite changes, chewing difficulty and wearing down of remaining teeth. If you are missing a single tooth, a dental implant is the most conservative, longest lasting option. Alternatively, a fixed bridge would require shaving down of healthy adjacent teeth to bond several crowns together. It puts these teeth at risk for sensitivity, pain, and future dental cavities. If you are a good candidate for an implant procedure, implants are almost always the preferred treatment option.
Dental Implant Services:
The process for placing a dental implant involves three parts and can take several months to complete.
- In the first step, your implant dentist in Sacramento, Dr. Jenny Apekian will take a 3D scan of your jaw and may also take a digital impression of your teeth. She will then plan for your implant digitally so that placement of your implant is done with total accuracy. Unlike many other offices, our state-of-the-art technology allows Dr. Apekian to create surgical guides that ensuring the safest and most effective implant placement.
- At the next appointment, Dr. Apekian will place the implant in your jaw. You will be ensured total comfort during your appointment. Sedation options are also available. You should expect to feel less discomfort than a simple dental extraction after the visit.
- Once the implant has been placed, the gum is then secured over the implant and remains with a healing abutment to heal properly. Once uncovered, a post or abutment is added to the implant and serves as the foundation for the new tooth.
- In the final step, implant dentist Dr. Jenny Apekian will place your new crown and custom abutment over the implant. The crown will blend in with your other teeth and will have a similar shape, color and size as all your other teeth. We pride ourselves on the fit, function, and esthetics of our implant crowns.
Safe, Effective, Natural Looking Teeth
Many patients who are missing one, few, or all of their teeth will resort to wearing partial or full dentures. Yet, all too often, dentures do not fit firmly and properly. Often they are ill-fitting, which creates discomfort and frustration. Often the reason for the loose or poor fit is simply because the structures that support and retain the dentures or partial denture (ridges or arches) are inadequate to firmly and securely retain and support the denture for comfort and ease of speaking and eating.
